Once upon a time, there were lots of laughter, noise and footsteps in the house. Now the silence prevailed. In the room could be heard only the ticking of a clock. Mary made lots of effort in dealing with people during her life. She did cooking, laundry and housework and also took care of her children. She did not have a moment to rest.

Aged Lady Sayings

She was a hard worker and had rough hands. She was hunched over and her eyes were feeble. Though her heart was still tender. She remembered all the little things about her children. She remembered when they walked and went to school and how she would stay awake all night to hear them crying. All of them had Mary’s loving care. She gave her children food, even if she didn’t have any for herself. When she was tired she smiled. She passed through the hardships. She tried to hide her pain so that her family wouldn’t worry about her.

The years went by and her children became grown. One by one, they started making their escape. They were working, married and they had begun to live their lives. Both of them were happy and made Mary happy also. She believes that she has helped to provide them with a better future. At first they came to see her on a regular basis. On their arrival, the house would light up. Mary was about to prepare their favorite meal and stood at the door with a smile. Gradually, the visits started to decline. The duration of calls on the telephone was shorter. Time passed, and weeks passed and months passed.
