It is difficult for today’s kids to comprehend life, as it is a world they are accustomed to quick answers and simple tools. People used to write letters in grandma’s time. The delay in the arrival of the message might be several days or longer. No live chat option. People waited for news from relatives and letters were important; people would keep letters over many years. It is unusual to wait for a response when kids can send messages in second.
Old-School Things
There were also a few channels on the TV back in Grandma’s day. No shows to stream and no endless list of shows. Families were viewed together about the same program. They awaited a certain day and time. If someone didn’t come, he or she had to wait again. This is a very old approach, and odd in today’s world where kids can access something of their choice anytime they want. There were many difficult aspects to school life. Students employed their books, paper and pencils and their own memory.
It was important that the work was tidy, as not all errors were readily correctable. It was more time consuming and patient to learn. The old way can feel like a slow process these days when there’s so much in the digital world! The shopping experience was also easy. Individuals visited local stores and selected from what is available. It wasn’t a one-click order that they placed. Besides, they mended what was old, they did not replace it. As nothing was easy to obtain, Grandma learned to take care of each item.

Chores were much more difficult to do. There was still a lot of work done manually. Time and skill were required for cleaning, washing, cooking and sewing. Home help for children was available too. There were less machines for ease of work. Children today will have no idea of the amount of energy required for a comfortable home. Other free time was also available. Children had more free time and expressed their imagination. They were spared the need to entertain themselves on the screen. They talked, played and helped family members.

There was never an easy time or an easy day, but people managed to enjoy the little things. He also gave them skills on how to deal with boredom. The world of grandma was a foreign one, but she had good values to impart. Patience and care was learnt, hard work and respect. Life is faster and easier today but Grandma’s lessons have not been forgotten. Her stories remind children that the world has changed and that little things can make a big difference.
