The story shows a small and funny moment between Pixie and Brutus. It opens with Brutus being very nervous. About his neck he has a cone. His cone makes him appear depressed and angry. He tries to scratch his neck, but he cannot because of the cone. This also aggravates him. His hands are knotted and his face is angry. It is noticeable that he likes not wearing the cone. Pixie and Brutus Cone
He is having Pixie watching him. Pixie is carefree and even a bit lighthearted. Pixie is aware of the purpose of the cone. Brutus has a reddish neck-rash, which he scratches. The cone will protect him against additional harm. This is explained in a simple way by Pixie. The cone is absent to punish him. It is there to help him heal. It is no favorite answer of Brutus. According to his opinion, the cone is unjust and frustrating.
And then Brutus, so much, he would not have scratched had he known that this should be. Pixie is unbelieving. This was a second warning that Pixie had issued him. Pixie remembers that there was a warning also. Brutus seems confused. He did not understand the warning as such. What is meant by this is a speech-hearing discrepancy. Pixie is a little sarcastic and Brutus appears embarrassed and stubborn.
As what is happening is revealed, we can clearly see that Brutus got a misconception of something which is comical. Pixie told Brutus about the cone, to which he thought of something quite different. He did not reason of the medical cone though of something nice. His imagination had elaborated a sweet and gentle idea quite as well as reality. This makes the case laughable. Pixie realizes and negates this with a battered appearance.
Pixie then makes a final comment. According to Pixie, one can be stupid and uplifting simultaneously. This provides the scene with silent ending. Sitting, his cone on his knee, Brutus is anxious but calm. Pixie is gazing up at him, with concern and a certain degree of disapproval. In the story, the difference between the two characters is shown. Pixie is shrewd and smart. Brutus is good-natured and hopeful. Even though, Pixie taunts Brutus, they know each other.
